Dr. Thomas Stinson

Licensed School Nurse, Harding High School, St Paul Public Schools; Adjunct Faculty Member, Saint Mary's University of Minnesota

Dr. Thomas Stinson is an educator who brings more than 25 years of varied nursing experience as a licensed school nurse, correctional health nurse, and home health care nurse to the classroom. Dr. Stinson has worked in St. Paul Public Schools as a licensed school nurse in various elementary, middle, and high schools since 1997. He is currently responsible for the health and wellness of more than 2,000 students at Harding High School. His nursing career has also included nearly five years as a correctional health nurse for the Ramsey County Jail, where he evaluated and managed the nursing service for a population of approximately 400 inmates. He began his career in nursing as a home health care nurse for Becklund Home Health Care following a tour in the U.S. Army as an infantry soldier and squad leader.

An adjunct faculty member at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota since 2011, his primary teaching focus is on integrated pediatric nursing.  However, over the last five years he has been teaching the nursing capstone course.  Dr. Stinson was the director of the RN to BSN completion program at Saint Mary’s of Minnesota from October 2017 through March 12, 2021.

Dr. Stinson has been a Member of the St. Paul Federation of Teachers for 25 years and has been focusing on bargaining contracts for the last 14 years.  He is an active member with the American Federation of Teachers for the last 14 years and serves on the Program and Policy Council of AFT Healthcare.
