Julie Hutcheson-Downwind

Dr. Julie Hutcheson-Downwind is a National Board Certified Teacher, at the American Indian Magnet School, St. Paul Public Schools. The American Indian Magnet School was created from the vision of elders and community members. Their goal was to provide an American Indian perspective and to welcome students of all backgrounds to a diverse school community. Their teaching approach is rooted in American Indian culture, traditions, values, history and art.

Dr. Hutcheson-Downwind has been teaching for 29 years in St. Paul Public Schools. She is Ojibwe and an enrolled member of Keweenaw Bay Indian Community in Baraga, Michigan. As Learning Lead her main role is to support teachers to foster student achievement. She supports teachers through coaching, professional development, modeling instruction, and facilitating Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
