What Do Schools Fostering A Teacher “Growth Mindset” Look Like?

Reading this article made me feel quite uncomfortable. There’s so many things wrong with the mindset of fostering teachers. At the end of the article the author identifies a couple of approaches leading to the success for the six schools with high rating one being, “Having the autonomy to choose teachers and redesign schedules.” This made me cringe as it reminds me of the Borg from the Star Trek series. This approach is about turning teachers into spineless, mindless puppets where they have no autonomy to teach but are treated like students is a Borg environment without a doubt. Administration wants autonomy over the teachers who in reality need the autonomy returned back to them to assist our nation wide problematic issues of students who are struggling readers and struggling with math raise the bar. Teachers need administrators to assist with dealing with critical behavior problems disrupting learning. It’s time administration stop trying to dog collar teachers and wake up to the revelation that their interference has caused the current teacher shortage. For the record these six schools in no way represents the thousands of schools in the nation. What they represent are dogged out teachers trying to keep a job to pay bills and keep food on the table.
