My hope is, if the curriculum is strong, teachers are good, etc. that DC will give these changes time to work. The education system is quick to spend tax-payer dollars chasing the next best fad but never giving the fad a chance to work...three years in education is not enough. Charters, at least in my district, are taking in kids that are 1 -3 years behind their stated grade level. They are not guaranteeing kids will continue to advance one grade to the next like traditional public schools do. They are saying the majority of students will be ready to excel in high school by the time they compete 8th grade... DC will be interesting to watch...
